چکیده

EVERAL chlorophyll-deficient mutants in maize display traits which resemble mineral-deficiency symptoms in genetically normal plants (BELL 1963). The present investigation involves a recently discovered trait in maize which resembles those symptoms resulting from nitrogen deficiency. The mutant, called lutes scent^' (BELL 1964) because of its resemblance to the lutescent tomato mutant (RICK and BUTLER 1956), was found by DR. ROY G. CREECH, The Pennsylvania State University, in a field planting of the U.S.D.A. plant introduction #262480. The phenotype of the mutant is characterized by pale yellow-green leaves which persist throughout the life of the plant (Figure 1A). As the leaves age, the yellowing becomes more intense, but the condition is not lethal under any known conditions. Mutant plants show a fair amount of vigor, and seed set has been reasonably good. A preliminary report on the nitrogen metabolism of the lutescent mutant has appeared (SHORTESS and BELL 1965), and more detailed aspects of this work will be discussed in a subsequent paper ( SHORTESS, BELL and WRIGHT 1968). In the present paper patterns of inheritance and their interaction with environmental factors are reported.

Genetic analysis of Biochemical and Physiological Traits using Haymen’s Graphical Approach in Lines and F2 Progenies of Maize (Zea mays L.)

The diallel mating design is an important tool used by plant breeding programs to obtain information on trait inheritance. Knowledge of gene action, heritability and genetic advance from selection is a prerequisite for starting a breeding program for developing varieties of maize. Five maize S7 lines and their F2 progenies were studied in a 5 × 5 half-diallel crossing design to evaluate the gen...

Genetic analysis of yield, yield-components and related phenological traits of maize (Zea mays L.) to breed under moisture stress conditions

Improved drought-tolerant maize hybrids would significantly reduce water consumption and increase yield in arid environments. Our knowledge about genetic parameters is very essential before starting a successful breeding program. The present research was carried out throughout three successive years between 2013-15 to reveal the pattern of inheritance in yield, yield-components and related...

Banding Patterns Activity of Antioxidant Enzymes and Physiological Indices in the Maize (Zea mays L.) Genotypes under Water Deficit Stress

Extended Abstract Introduction and Objective: Various environmental stresses, especially water deficit stress have several and major effects on maize growth and production. Drought is one of the abiotic stresses that due to the great variety of rainfall conditions, it is known from Iran as the most important factor limiting the growth and production of crops. Therefore, the effect of water def...

Nuclear and Cytoplasmic Inheritance of Salt Tolerance in Bread Wheat Plants Based on Ion Contents and Biological Yield

Although inter-variety variability for salt tolerance has been reported in bread wheat plants, little information is available on the genetic control of ion contents and biomass yield under saline conditions. A diallel cross, including reciprocals of two salt tolerant, two moderately tolerant and two sensitive Iranian and exotic bread wheat varieties, was analyzed to investigate the inheritance...

The Effects of Novel Mutations in A1 Domain of Human Coagulation Factor VIII on Its Secretion Level in Cultured Mammalian Cells

Inefficient secretion of the human coagulation factor (hFVIII) in mammalian expression systems is one ofthe main causes of the hFVIII low expression level, attributed to its interaction with a chaperone known asBiP/GRP78. In order to improve secretion efficiency of the hFVIII, based on the higher secretion level of theporcine FVIII and analysis of the hFVIII A110 region, that ...
